How to cut Flex using Silhouette cameo?

The Flex or Flock is the consumable of choice for most people who use a Silhouette Cameo. Very practical and easy to use, you can personalise all types of textiles based on polyester, cotton or polycotton blends. A wide range of colours and effects are available on our website www.creadhesif.com in the "Flex/Flock" section.

To make the cut, you will need:

  • - A sheet or roll of flex or flock
  • - A silhouette cutting machine
  • - An object to decorate, such as a t-shirt or pillowcase
  • - A heat press

STEP 1 - Cutting

First, choose or create your design. To begin with, we advise you to start with visuals that are not too complex and easy to understand for theweeding stage.

  1. Select the mirror mode: once your creation is loaded, click on the Graph button, then click on the"Replicate " icon located at the bottom of the toolbar.

  2. Finally, select the"Left Mirror" or"Right Mirror " mode.

  3. You now have a mirror copy of your design. You can delete the original design to avoid accidentally cutting out a non-mirror copy.

  4. Now load your flex into the Silhouette. You can load it directly or on a cutting mat. If you load it directly, be sure to adjust the width of the rolls so that the flex or flock fits perfectly.

  5. Choose"load media" on the Silhouette screen. The plastic holder should be facing down. Press Enter to load the material.

  6. If you are using a small piece of flex or flock such as a 30cm x 50cm sheet, you can glue it to a cutting mat to secure it. Place the vinyl on the cutting mat with the plastic backing down and select"load cutting mat". Select Enter on the screen to load the mat.

  7. Click on the "Cutting Parameters" icon (located on the top toolbar) and select "Thermal Transfer Vinyl" from the menu. Be sure to choose the right mode for your consumable. If you are using a smooth vinyl, select "Smooth". Select "Flock" for flex or flock.

  8. Adjust the blade depth to the specified setting and press "Cut". When the cutting process is complete, unload the carpet or backing.

STEP 2 - Transfer

You have just made a flex cut with your Silhouette Cameo.

  1. Remove the extra flex on the plastic holder. The Silhouette hook can help you remove/strip off small pieces of flex that you do not want to transfer to your T-shirt.

  2. Once you have completed this step, place your cut-out on your support (T-shirt).

  3. Turn on your press, set the temperature, time and pressure. Once the temperature is reached, place your cut-out on your support and press.

All you have to do is remove the liner when it is cold.
