What is sublimation on polyester?
Sublimation is the simplest and most effective process for applying high quality photos or images to a wide variety of objects. It is a printing technique, which requires specific inks.
Polyester sublimation is carried out on textiles that are white, or very light coloured (pale pink, pale blue, ecru...). To carry out polyester sublimation, Sublijet ink is required.
From an inkjet printer, the image or logo is printed on a specific paper suitable for sublimation. This is the transfer paper. With the help of a heat press, under the effect of heat (180-200°C) and pressure, the ink gasifies and penetrates directly into the mesh of the textile or the polyester varnish of hard substrates. The sprayed ink cools on contact with the transfer paper and becomes solid again. The image literally penetrates the surface of the article, resulting in a product that is perfectly homogeneous to the touch and a high quality image definition. This means that the image then becomes an integral part of the product and is not just affixed to it.
What ink should I use on polyester textile?
On polyester textile, Sublijet ink must be used.
which is suitable for Ricoh printers.
You can perform polyester sublimation on textiles that contain at least 50% polyester on white or very light-coloured textiles (pale pink, pale blue, ecru...).
For all hard surfaces such as mugs, mouse pads, plates, etc., you must also use Sublijet ink.
Can I use Chromablast (cotton) and Sublijet (polyester) inks in the same printer?
You must have a dye-sublimation printer for each type of ink. Thus, if you want to work on 100% cotton textiles but also on products such as mugs, or phone cases Iphone, you must have two printing systems (printers): one that will be used for Chromablast ink (cotton textiles), and one that will be used for Sublijet ink (polyester textiles and hard substrates).
On the other hand, if you wish to work on polyester textiles and sublimable objects (mugs etc...), you can use one and the same printer with Sublijet ink.
Five steps to sublimate
in all simplicity
1 - Using the software (Photoshop, Coreldraw, Illustrator), select your image or logo to be printed and start printing on your specific cotton transfer paper.
2 - After having previously set the temperature, the heating time of your press and its pressure, place your media (t-shirt, polo, mug...) on the press.) on the foam part of your heat press
3 - Place your transfer sheet on the T-shirt and if you wish a sheet of baking paper on top (Teflon sheet)
4 - Activate your press while respecting the heating time, temperature and pressure recommended
5 - Take your T-shirt out of the press, and immediately and carefully remove your transfer paper.
Your shirt is ready to use!
Tip Créadhésif : Before starting the hot pressing operation, press your press for one or two seconds on your blank T-shirt in order to smooth your textile. This operation removes moisture from the t-shirt and allows a better transfer of your image on the textile.
What are the advantages of polyester sublimation?
- Suitable for private individuals and professionals
- Provides perfect colour reproduction and brightness (subject to technical installation constraints)
- Unequalled respect for the t-shirt's physiognomy by adapting to the most comfortable textiles
- No possible ink smearing
