Coating & Insulating

In order to transfer your design to your screen, it is now necessary to coat your screen and expose it.
To do this, coat your screen with a diazo emulsion using a hollow squeegee (be careful, this step must be done in a darkroom as the emulsion is photosensitive). Apply the emulsion on both sides of the screen. If you wish, you can make two passes with your squeegee to obtain a stronger stencil. Don't be surprised to find that the emulsion is not thicker, it will always be thinner but stronger.

When coating your screen, make sure you apply uniform pressure on the squeegee. If the pressure you exert is good, you should hear a characteristic "zip".

Then after the emulsion has dried (ideally 8 hours) and after carefully positioning the typical film on your screen, expose it. The exposure time is about 5 min, however you can determine this time more precisely with our SAATI exposure calculator.

You can find all our emulsions and sunbathers in our section Screen Insulation
