Method of use :
The ink must be activated to work, however, once the activator has been added to the base, the base has a limited shelf life. There are two methods of applying the base:
1. The first and most common method is to mix each of the colours you are going to use with gnawing ink. There is then no need to apply an undercoat. In this case, the colour pigments should be added to the base when you activate it. Pigments can be ordered in many colours and should be added to the base at a rate of 10%.
2. The second method is to use gnawing ink as an undercoat. This method allows you to use either a white or a neutral etching ink that does not contain any pigments and reveals the natural colour of the substrate. Printing is then done with plastisol inks with or without flash drying of the base.
Eroding ink works with most designs, but particularly with brightly coloured designs. Also, even if you are using plastisol inks to print your designs, applying this base will make them less heavy, as the undercoat is a water-based product.
However, if your design is made up of halftones or areas with very light ink deposits then a neutral colour base will be more effective. The white pigments in white etching ink can mix with the inks you use during printing and change the colour.
CAUTION: Eroding inks should be handled with care.
